DIVORCE

Deciding to end a marriage is stressful and emotional. Divorce is likely to be one of the most challenging experiences of your life, with a lasting impact on your family, your children and your financial situation. Working with an experienced and compassionate divorce attorney can make all the difference.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

The attorneys at Davis, Smith & Jean LLC are experienced in all facets of the Florida dissolution of marriage process, including complex and high-net-worth cases and appeals. Our experienced attorneys are wholeheartedly devoted to your family’s well-being. You might be concerned about financial instability and being able to afford to stay in your home. If you have children, you are worried about their feelings and how time-sharing arrangements will affect them. You may be doubting your decision to file for divorce entirely. We understand that each family’s situation is unique, and we are fully equipped to assist you in effectively navigating through this time of change.

In Florida, a divorce is called a dissolution of marriage. Florida is a no-fault state, meaning that fault is not a ground for divorce. The only requirement to dissolve a marriage in Florida is for one of the parties to prove that the marriage is “irretrievably broken.” Either spouse can file and must provide proof that a marriage exists, and that one party has been a Florida resident for six months immediately preceding the filing of the petition.

Whether our legal relationship has already been established or you are a new client, please call (786) 206-4410 to schedule an initial consultation. During your consultation with us, we will discuss the outcomes that result from a dissolution of marriage such as division of assets and debts, alimony, child support, parental responsibility and time-sharing schedules.

While many divorces can be cordially resolved, you and your spouse might not be able to reach a consensus. Laura Davis Smith and Sonja Jean are highly trained and experienced negotiators and litigators who are qualified and passionate about guiding you and your family through every step of the divorce process.
